To be more efficient and get things done fast, you should automate certain tasks, like the tasks you do over and over again. That’s where macros come in – they allow you to automate repetitive tasks, thus saving you time and making you more efficient. The Keyboard Express application lets you create keyboard macros. With a simple press of a key (or key combo) you can launch an application, open a system folder, run a web search, access a specific webpage, shut down the computer, and more.

The Keyboard Express installation file is 14.4MB in size. Run it once you have it on your machine and a setup wizard will show up and take you through the installation process; you can install the application on 32 and 64-bit editions of Windows, from Windows 7 down to Windows 2000. The setup wizard will ask you to pick between a Default Installation and a Custom Installation that lets you pick if you want to install the Editor, Help, and Quick Start Guide. When the installation process completes you will be presented with a Welcome to Keyboard Express Quick Setup Wizard and then with a Keyboard Express Quick Start Guide.

The application’s multi-pane interface presents a Categories pane to the left, a Macros pane in the middle, and a pane to the right with handy links for creating new macros. At the top there’ the traditional File Menu. While Keyboard Express is running, you will see an icon in the system tray. To bring up the application’s interface you can click said icon or use the Ctrl + Up keyboard shortcut.

Say you frequently access a certain website – you can create a macro to access that website with a simple keyboard combo. What you have to do is click New Macro, pick a hotkey from a long list of unassigned hotkeys, pick Website from the list in the Script tab, enter the URL of the website, and pick if you want the website to open in your default or in the Internet Explorer browser. I set it up so that when I press Shift + Z, my default browser launches and accesses the FindMySoft website.

Or let’s say that you frequently search for something on the web. Select Quick Macro from the right hand side of the application’s interface, click Search The Web, pick one of several search engines, type your query, and set a hotkey. When you press that hotkey, your browser will launch, the search engine you pick will be accessed, and a search will be performed based on your query.

These are just two examples of how you could use Keyboard Express. There are various other macros you could create. And you can schedule macros to take place automatically.

You have a total of 30 days to uncover all the functionality Keyboard Express has to offer. When the trial period expires, you’ll have to get a license to keep using the application.

This tool is just a must have for anyone who wants to save time and be more productive.

Pros

Works with 32 and 64-bit editions of Windows. Pick between a Default and a Custom installation. You’re presented with a Quick Start Guide and Quick Setup Wizard, both meant to help you quickly get up to speed and rapidly set up the application. Easily create and run macros; schedule macros to run automatically.

Cons

Free to use for a 30-day trial.
